Jaipur, the Rajasthan capital, saw a shocking case of a police constable raping a married woman in the name of recording her statement. The accused, constable Bhagararam, was arrested on Sunday, March 9, after a complaint was filed by the husband of the victim.
As per media reports, ACP Vinod Sharma confirmed that a case was filed against Bhagararam on Saturday evening on the complaint of the woman's husband. The accused constable was deployed at the Sanganer Police Station.
The wife was taken to the hotel by the husband's alleged accomplice Bhagararam on the pretext that they were to record her statement in respect to a complaint which she had given against her neighboring woman some days ago when she was by herself at home and her husband happened to be outside working.
ACP Sharma also disclosed that Bhagararam phoned the woman, requested her to come and meet him at some distance from her residence, and then picked her up and the child along with him on his motorcycle. When they arrived, he is said to have informed the hotel management that the woman had to change her clothes and asked for a room. In the room, he allegedly committed the inhuman act.
Authorities revealed that the accused constable went on to threaten the woman, telling her not to speak about the incident to anyone. He reportedly told her that he would have her husband jailed if she spoke up.
ACP Sharma verified that Bhagararam has been arrested and is being questioned. In the meantime, a medical check-up of the victim is being carried out to verify the claims, including potential pregnancy.
